  1. Health insurance and pharmaceutical companies have conflicting interests. Insurers want to spend as little as possible. Pharma wants to sell as much as possible at as high a price as possible.

  3. The financial sector has consumed everything. Forget small government. We need small finance. Until that happens pharmaceutical companies will continue prioritizing buybacks and dividends over R&D. Finance is a mostly bullshit sector anyway. That's where all economic bubbles having been coming from for almost a century, who bursts them, and who benefits from both parts of that deliberate cycle.
