A lot of the cases of lasting harm could be due to myalgic encephalomyelitis. Unfortunately it's quite misunderstood and barely acknowledged, despite being known about for almost a century and effecting more people than MS. Doctors tend to give the exact wrong advice for it too (graded exercise therapy rather than pacing with a heart rate moniter) and that can make it permanently worse. I hope the tragic surge in cases (which happens with most outbreaks) will lead to proper recognition and funding for research and treatment.

Then you are letting emotions cloud your judgment.

@commenterperson4481 it's complicated

I never thought that people like Fauci were saying masks would be pointless. From the very beginning they were clear that health care workers would be able to make good use of them. This always indicated that if there was enough supply that everybody else could be taught how to wear one. Obviously a lot of people still don't know or refuse to do it properly for moronic reasons, and when the benefit is through combining use with distancing, proper handwashing, and isolation where applicable. People tend to reduce it just to masks, but no healthcare professional is saying just wear masks. So it's multiple kinds of silly to think that it would have been good to immediately recommend masks to the general public.

@user-ue5yw6zb9k Reasoning is not an excuse. Most of what he said in the interview was just reiterating his reasoning at the time, since apparently people still don't understand the concept of triage.

@user-ue5yw6zb9k There is a distinction, particularly in this context. Reasoning is the driving motivation. An excuse is a justification. One tells you why something was done. The other tries to tell you why it was okay. Do you get it now?

@user-ue5yw6zb9k I get that you're blinded by spite, and have a dogmatic bent against him.

You're oversimplifying what he said, despite mentioning the "great detail" of it.

@Vanderearden 'wearing a mask might actually hurt you' [for no specified reason even though he specified his reasoning]

@Vanderearden However, whatabout x, y, and z--or maybe we could stick to the topic. I heard him, and I knew that masks would inevitably be the recommendation for the general public because he was never just saying 'no, masks bad'.

@Vanderearden I recognized that PPE needed to be temporarily prioritized for healthcare. Maybe looking up 'triage' would help you understand that there's more to consider than 'just yes or just no'.

@Vanderearden His answer was not that simple. You can cling to your bent 'til the end of time, but that only demonstrates the kind of unreasonableness that he has had to compensate for at every step of the way.
