  16.  @hondooooo  I know that they won't let the baby die, but the parents will be presented with a huge bill anyway I personally know the story of a woman who had to sell her company because her baby was born months premature. a bill of 940,000 dollars. In Europe this costs around €600. I also know someone who went on vacation to the US who got appendicitis there and couldn't fly back to have surgery at home. A bill of 100,000 dollars and that was either pay it or they let him die there. Hospitals are required to provide life-saving emergency care under EMTALA, but once someone is stable, they can refuse to provide further treatment without upfront payment. Appendicitis is urgent, but not always immediately life-threatening. Pro-life America huh?
