That is more about the American culture in general, and semantics really. Americans fuked up the moment they started calling the Left as Liberals. Even Ludwig Von Mises himself had to re-title his book 'Liberalismus' with a different name for Americans. What Mises Institute is about, is actually Liberalism or "classical" Liberalism, and indeed you are correct, that Libertarianism was and still is, a socialist movement coined by a French Anarcho-Communist Joseph Déjacque.
