@troyott2334 Apart from that Stalingrad was the central hub in that region. All railroad tracks went to Stalingrad. If they wanted logistic support in that area, they needed Stalingrad. You can't just bypass a central hub and think you can get supplies when you don't control the roads and railroads.

You do have some points, but remember that the UK provided more lend lease to the USSR then the USA before the Red Army had actually managed to turn the war around. The USA provided more lend lease when the Red Army where on the offensive, but not when they were being pushed back. Seeing how bad the UK had it, I don't think the USSR got that much from their lend lease. However. Hitler did have the better economical view. Without oil they were doomed on all fronts. That is also what happened.

Not possible. Stalingrad was the central network in that whole region. If they wanted access to anything else while having logistic support, they needed the train stations and railroads. All railroad tracks lead to Stalingrad as that was the central hub. So they might have been able to bypass Stalingrad, but that also meant they will have to survive on less fuel and fewer rations. Trains can just bring in more resources then trucks can.
