@DantesDarkside LOL well theres no debate amongst SERIOUS students of Science I should have said :) with folks who think gods might be real, well, anything goes doesnt it :) carbon dating? pollen decay studies? might be just bullshit, or time travelling dragon riders just brought it from the first century to the eighth right? no LOGIC need be involved at all, merely Faith in an Idea .. that has no basis in testable logical reality :) as Thomas Aquinas , that great torturer and slayer of witches and jews said .. Proof denies Faith, meaning if you had Proof of a god you literally could not make a leap of Faith in him .. such is the wisdom of a guy who murdered gnostics, muslims, scientists, doctors, and ofc helpless young girls as his day to day job and became a Mighty Christian Hero because of these .. despicable but typical behaviours :)

from what Ive read of "nine inch nails" used for this purpose .. they could probably mash your entire fist under the head of such a nail .. so where exactly you nailed him might not be all that relevant. And if it did rip out .. no biggie, whack a few more nails into the arm or something eh? cant be that hard to nail a guy to wood with these giant nails right?

@mikeromney4712 well the particular corpse youre talking about is probably not representative of all crucifixions, as there are roman anecdotes about people escaping from crosses, and the need for a soldier to stand a 24/7 watch until they die to prevent this .. what youre describing doesnt sound like something you could get away from, so it cant be 100% of cases

@davidd1057 lol .. no I dont think thats how the romans looked at crucifixion at all :) .. its thier "minimum effort" execution, no doubt done severeal million times in thier whole history, its like thier "hanging", a go-to method of killing with least possible effort. You are clearly unfarmiliar with what they do to people who commit CAPITAL crimes, like Patricide .. what romans do when they are REALLY offended or angry .. read some of thier books youll see. I know it sounds insane, but the average roman cant barely notice a guy on a cross, its like us looking at telephone poles. Do you remember the last telephone pole you saw? ofc you dont youre so used to them theyre invisible .. thats how people saw "crucification" back then

theres also the thing, when rome and carthage fought, I gather the standard method for dealing with captured enemy soldiers was crosses (both sides) so its not that unknown exactly to semites either .. depending on whether you rekon carthaginians to be semetic (I kinda do, considering thier gods but they were actually a highly multicultural empire) so if armies in a hurry can do it .. its not that big a chore

technical problems possibly irrelevant, you tell the soldiers to GET IT DONE and its done. Pretty sure it must have been an actual cross myself .. when it was first used as a symbol it was still being used as a judicial instrument (I think?) so the shape is probably correcto enuf :) maybe SOME were T shaped tho, very possible, no doubt it varies by period how they made em

@davidd1057 sadly we dont have a lotta details on carthage, romans went full scorched earth .. not ONE book for instance its incalculable what was lost. But we do know carthage would crucify its own generals when they failed .. which is actually a terrible idea you keep killing your best guys just cause they lost a fight against the roman army .. very foolish not helpful

@PeterWasted well heres another problem then :) its true that the image does somewhat look like the fella typically depicted nailed to crosses .. however the very earliest known painting of this guy, from the catacombs in rome, shows a youthful figure running with a lamb, with no beard or moustache at all, and shortish curly hair :)

I think if jesus was a real fella, why do we doubt he was crucified? I take the view there was probably a guy because his ripples thru history are .. well pretty strong, love em or hate em .. mostly I figure the effect of christianity on history was a Bad Thing and still is .. however opinions vary :) .. if we doubt the story so strongly, if we think major events like this, which are indisputably POSSIBLE, whether he was a god or not .. and weve no reason to believe he was real at all eh?
