  1. I think David Starkey has a way to go with his political evolution. Liberalism, Classical English Liberalism (CEL) is not necessarily a slippery slope to hedonistic self destruction. If you accept regulating principles such as Carl Popper's Paradox of Tolerance. Popper was aware of the propensity of CEL to accept Marxist ideology as valid due to its stated egalitarian aims. However, Popper concluded that liberalism could and should reject ideas that promote intolerance. So, Critical Theory (in all its permutations ) parades around in the seemingly liberal mantle of diversity, equity and inclusion. BUT, these words have been surreptitiously coopted into a lexicon of double speak (the new language of Wokish) to actually mean the complete opposite of what they would have meant in a liberal society. Applied Critical Social Justice is intolerant of diversity of personal outlook, it excludes those who disagree with ideas at odds with Critical Theory (no place for open reasoned debate) and equity requires discrimination and oppression against those who on average succeed in life. These core tenets of Applied Social Justice theory are intolerant - that is where liberalism is permitted to be intolerant itself. The reason Gender Theory, Critical Race Theory, Body Positive and so on are influential in liberal society is because of a lack of political literacy among the recently educated masses. They simply have not been introduced to political philosophy and are unaware of the compromises required to enact any unannealed ideal. Conservativism is in itself a branch of liberalism. Libertarianism is too. Social Democrats too. The Woke, the Vulgar Marxists, the National Socialists, the Fascists are not supportive of factual debate and common consensus. They are intolerant totalizing philosophies. They are NOT 'far' left or right, they are revolutionary authoritarian movements. They cannot be regarded as extreme views of any liberal outlook. We should stop using the left right dichotomy inherent in the liberal outlook to describe them - it merely permits them a place at the table. Popper realised this is wrong headed and tried to warn us.
