A plunging fertility rate is something that is hardly unique to China, it's happening to countries all over the world The crux of the matter is simple - women just don't feel it's necessary to have children You can't really blame them They're earning their own money, and spending their money on themselves. Buying things for themselves, paying for their own vacation, etc. It's a life that's free from the responsibility of having to take care of and raise children. They don't have to answer to anyone (other than their boss or client at work), and they can basically just live life however they want to So why would they want to change that? Why would they want to have children? A child is both an important responsibility and also a financial drain. Having a child basically means an end to their current lifestyle So of course they'd rather stay single and continuing earning money and enjoying life In the past, there was societal pressure to have children But nowadays, in the name of being liberal and progressive, such pressure is longer accepted And so here we are, a society where women are unwilling to have children

@delilah28100 Lol why do you sound so triggered by the term leftover women? Is it because you are a leftover woman yourself?

@CassVanCat Let me start by saying I completely understand what you mean. But let me also try to open your eyes to a different point of view: If you find that you cannot afford living at the city that you're in, have you asked yourself why are you even there in the first place? Why are you not moving to a more affordable part of your country? This is a choice that you made

@cynthia718 And why do you assume that men don't make any sacrifices? You sound really full of yourself
