This is the comment I was looking for There is a huge difference between the palm oil industry in Malaysia and Indonesia I see a lot of Indonesians in the comment section trying to defend palm oil and they lump Malaysia and Indonesia together The problem is mostly in Indonesia Indonesia's slash and burn methods is what's giving palm oil a bad reputation, and Malaysian palm oil is being dragged down together Not to mention the yearly smog that Malaysia suffers Not only is slash and burn in Indonesia hurting our public health, it's also hurting our palm oil industry I wish the Malaysian government did more pressure Indonesia to stop using cheap slash and burn methods - if Indonesia wants to be part of the palm oil industry, it has to invest in more modern farming methods, otherwise they are just ruining the industry for the rest of us

Almost every year, South East Asia suffers from a smog due to small land owning farmers in Indonesia burning their lands to plant things including palm oil Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-34265922 Indonesia's primitive farming methods is what's giving palm oil a bad reputation, and Malaysia is being dragged down along with it

Don't lump Malaysia and Indonesia together Almost every year, South East Asia suffers from a smog due to small land owning farmers in Indonesia burning their lands to plant things including palm oil Source: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-34265922 Indonesia's primitive farming methods is what's giving palm oil a bad reputation, and Malaysia's palm oil industry is being dragged down along with it The Malaysian government should take the initiative educate the world in the difference between how palm oil is produced in Malaysia and Indonesia Push for a "Malaysian Palm Oil" label, so that people know which palm oil is the more sustainable one

@noefvon Most of those who employ slash and burn tactics in Indonesia are individual smallhold Indonesian farmers There may be one or two Malaysian or Singaporean companies who are guilty or that as well, but that is the exact point being made here - Indonesia is trying to divert attention away from what their own people are doing by scapegoating the small handful of foreign companies who were caught

@mehi9285 Deforestation in Sarawak is primarily driven by logging Most palm oil plantations in Sarawak are set up on land that's already been cleared due to logging Learn your facts before criticizing your own state

@louisholden5127 Most of that is actually due to logging It has very little to do with oil palm

And Malaysia should send invoice to Indonesia every year when the haze returns
