Interesting thing about Xi Jin Ping's daughter studying in the US is that he likely sees it as an insurance policy You see, Chinese politics is like the freaking game of thrones - when you play, you win or you die You only have to look at how Xi destroyed his rival Bo Xi Lai after he won the power struggle and rose to the top Having his only child "studying" in the US is basically his safety net for his family - if he were ever to be ousted in a power struggle one day and his future opponents decided to wipe him out, his child would at least be relatively safe being in the US, out of the reach of his rivals I imagine the same thing applies for many Chinese elites Sending their children to the US basically protects them from their family's enemies - be it politicians, the Chinese mafia, or just plain old business rivals - and you rarely get rich in China without screwing someone over and making some enemies in the process
