This is a misleading question India was barely one country in the first place https://theprint.in/opinion/partition-unified-india-in-1947-nationalism-of-today-is-slowly-disintegrating-us/203969/ "Indeed, at no point in time in all of recorded history – prior to 1947 – was India ruled by less than at least four competing political entities" In other words, "India" is a modern day construct, there's never been a unified "India" So the question of why was India partitioned can be a very confusing one How do you partition something that has never existed in the first place?

@ashtavakra3710 Can you name a few other similar countries? Aka united as a civilizational entity since ancient times but never as a political entity until 1947 How many can you think of?

@ashtavakra3710 Uhm, you need to relook your facts Germany was united in 1871. China in 221 bc. Japan in 1590 and Spain in 1516 These countries are nothing like India Did you even bother checking, or were you just naming countries at random?

@ashtavakra3710 The point is, prior to British colonization, India as a country has never existed - it only came into being in 1947 India was "partitioned" in the same year, 1947, when Pakistan was separated from "India" Which is why I said the original question can be confusing Because in 1947, India barely even existed as one united country, so how do you partition something that hasn't even really existed
