For me its being picomanaged to death. I spend > 80% of my time talking about what i'm doing so people who have no ability, and all the authority, can weigh in.

I'm a huge fan of dev tooling. A huge part of my success over the decades is leveraging tools like IDEs, stack overflow, etc. to be far more effective than a 'really' am. Working 'smarter'. I should be the target demographic for this stuff. And it's complete trash. I just haven't seen it be useful; its literally worse than my old fashioned static analysis tools. When I have a `Foo` object, it used to offer autocomplete that took a `Foo` object. Now it fires off some completely unrelated screed of 10+ lines with obvious errors that don't even compile, never mind appropriate to the problem. Every 6 months I come back after however many "gamechangers" and it's the same crap with a slightly different aroma. Yet the claims are up to 'months of senior level code in minutes'. Mmmhmm.

Your company almost certainly won't keep up with market value; many will straight lie to you i.e. churn and burn. Learn skills that are valuable across the industry and start applying every 3-4 years. Anything else is gambling and the house is rigged.

So jr devs and non-coding architects agree, but the people who actually write code don't? Golly, who to believe??

Sure it is. Now invoke the automobile to really cement it.
