Writing your own libraries wasn't unthinkable, which was an opportunity to learn how to write larger codebases (even if you were one of the red shirts finding out OOP is mostly BS 😥). Now you're expected to deliver something that's actually useful, but the prereqs for `useful` is pretty high. By the time a more senior person chunks it down to something the jr can understand, they might as well finish it off. But then we have a bootstrapping problem.
