Genuine parts are expensive. You can't compare aftermarket versus genuine toyota. 97% of the time, genuine lasts 10x more than aftermarket.

@ytj22 the owner intends to keep that van for life that’s why he drove 1200 kms to Chicago to have that fixed. Ofcourse it needs that 10x longer factor. Haven’t you been listening to the video? The owner even brought that van to Germany and now back to US.

@michael931 correct, $2k is for both parts and labor.

@ytj22 the owner labored a year on that problem. And the dealership techs failed him. You can’t fault him driving that far to have it fixed. And now clearly it will be fixed. Owner met his goals. I doubt an aftermarket rack lasting 8 years. Unless u only drive 2000 miles a year on pristine roads. It is evident owner needs the quality genuine toyota part can deliver given his road conditions. His rack was replaced a year ago, that reflects his env. Don’t get me wrong, I have used aftermarket in several applications. But let’s not kid ourselves, those aftermarkets - performance oriented ones are 2x-3x the price of OEM. I digress, let’s be real here. The general public goes aftermarket because they only see CHEAP price. This is the main context here, just because you can get a $150 rack, doesn’t mean it will perform the same as the a $600 one.

@ytj22 We can only wonder why he did not try locally. But in today's world, an honest shop is a needle in a haystack. With everything factored in, a new OEM part which has superior quality over these aftermarket/reman ones makes more financial sense in the long run, buy once, cry once.
