@conaldeugenepeterson2147 That is incorrect. Games are in-fact our property - top courts around the world have ruled on this matter. I have not seen the phrase ”you are leasing this IP from the publisher and can be denied access at any time”, but I think you might be referring to the phrase "this software is licensed, not sold". First, a license is not the same thing as a lease. And in that phrase, the "software" which is being licensed is the software IP, and not the software copy which you are purchasing and outright own just as you also own your cars, your clothing, your TV... all those things are licensed instances of copyrighted IPs. Also, that phrase, "this software is licensed, not sold", appears in EULAs and EULAs are not legal documents or contracts. Further, a Terms of Service isn't the same thing as an EULA, and a ToS doesn't apply to your purchased games - it applies to the online servers and the services supplied through them that you might engage and use. You own your games and they are your property. But you don't own the 3rd-party servers that you might use to play a play online with. A company has a right to set the terms for their own servers, but they don't have any rights to dictate how you may use your game properties
You can read all about software ownership, licenses, and EULAs here: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/953835-you-own-the-software-that-you-purchase-and-any-claims-otherwise-are-urban-myth-or-corporate-propaganda/

No. AC4 is the most AC-ish game of the series. AC4 has the most First Civilization lore in it, it directly continues the story from AC3 where Juno was freed and said now she was going to do her part. AC4 is all about the Sage, who is the reincarnation of Juno's husband, and the observatory. And the Abstergo tech in the modern day is also the reincarnation of Aita, Juno's husband.
AC3 is more of a spin-off than AC4, because AC3's protagonist, Connor, doesn't care at all about the assassins and is only joining them for training to be able to get revenge. He pretty much disowns the assassins. Edward in AC4, by contrast, becomes more and more dedicated to the assassins as the game progresses, and he end-up hunting the templars and stopping the Templar grand-master at the observatory. AC3 is a Native American simulator. And Unity is a French Revolution simulator.
I guess that AC2 is also a spin-off, because it's more about Ezio wanting revenge and being interesting in looking after his family than it is the assassins order.
Seems like there's no actual AC game, because they're all spin-offs. But of all the AC games, AC4 Black Flag is the most AC-ish of them all.

@Hynotama AC4 is the best AC game, and the most AC-ish of the series. It has the most precursor race lore out of any AC game, it has the actual Assassins and Templars organizations and they're at the core of the story, it has a story that's actually about the Assassins and Templars conflict, it has a modern-day story that contains big new reveals, it has the peak refinement of the AC gameplay and controls, it has loads of climbing and parkour, and stealth, it has an actual First Civilization building and technology in it. AC4 is the most AC-ish game of the series, and it's also the best game of the series. Sadly, it's also the last true AC game of the series (unless Rogue is counted - but Rogue focuses on the Templars).
Additionally, boating in AC4 can be kept to a minimal. But I don't know why it would be an issue. It's a lot more fun than AC2's base building and store-unlocking. And it doesn't take more time than that. I guess AC2 isn't a real AC game, it's an entrepreneur simulator. AC3 is a Native American simulator (Connor didn't care about the Assassins at all), Unity is a French Revolution simulator.

@Hynotama The First Civilization has been building-up and central to everything the Assassins and Templars are doing since AC2. Both groups are after their technology and seeking understanding of them, and AC2's ending is all about the FS. AC3 is centred around the FS with Juno wanting to be freed, showing they aren't just something from the distant past. She is freed at the end, and says Desmond's done her part and now she's going to do her part - meaning the FS were planned to have a bigger presence in the game. AC4 continues what AC2 - AC3 was establishing. AC4 added that Juno's husband, Aita, has been reincarnating throughout the ages.
AC4 didn't take away from the mystery, it added to it with the stories in the bottles found on beaches that contain glimpses of what happened to Aita during the time of the FS, with the FS' observatory, with the realization that Aita is reincarnating and is keeping tabs on the Templars, that Juno is now up to something that isn't yet revealed...
If you didn't see mystery in AC4 at every turn, you were asleep or just not willing to pay attention because you saw boats and decided that meant there's no AC there. There's more AC in AC4 than there is in any other game in the series.
BTW, the boats in AC4 are great fun and they suit the period and story. AC3 also has boats. AC4's boats are much refined, though. AC2 has a flying machine made by Leonardo. I've always thought that the inclusion of Leonardo as a friend of Ezio is one of the weakest design points of the classic series, up to AC4. And the flying machine's gameplay is awful - so is the unlocking of towers ad nauseum, and same with AC2's unlocking of storefronts (which you do have to do, by the way, unless you don't plan to upgrade your gear) and scavenging to pull-down wanted posters after every encounter or so. AC2 is far more repetitive than AC4, and more repetitive than AC3, which itself is a lot more repetitive than AC4. You can get by in AC4 spending less time boating than you can in AC2 with unlocking towers and storefronts. But the boating in AC4 is far more engaging and fun then AC2's grind.

@Melted Synapse Hynotama
hasn't even played Black Flag 4. Literally nothing they've said about it is true. That troll absurdly claimed that 75% of the game is boating (more like 10% of it), and that a "minimal" playthrough of Black Flag can avoid exploring islands (no, it can't), and then admitted that they hadn't even played much of the game. Hynotama
is a clown and has embarrassed themselves greatly here.
Yes, Black Flag is excellently designed, and is easily one of the best games made on any platform to date. It's by far the best AC game. It's music, art direction, character design, voice acting, level design, are all top-notch, and superior to anything that Ubisoft or most any other studio has done since.
