  1.  Craig Spain  Those who were here prior to the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo remained and by law became US citizens. Mexican nationalists put out a false history that says the US deported them and thus the real owners of the land reside in Mexico. But deportations in the 1840-50's did not happen. Those who were here before the treaty remained and their descendants are still here today inter married with the rest of society.

  5.  Craig Spain  that is correct. Mexicans living south of the border invariably do not have direct ancestors who had lived in what is now the US prior to Guadalupe Hidalgo. As such the have no more claim to the real estate than a kid living in Tashkent.
