Was basically the same in most of East and SE Asia as well.

Spoken like a good slave. I will live in rural area and never mind the infrastructure, so I can keep my freedom.

A Colombian passport with a 1.5% per annum wealth tax?

The pretext is so benign. But the outcome will be dystopian.

@easterncoastacd1883 you spam that under every comment. But new tax regimes are always innocuous at the start, then they eventually apply to everyone.

@eddieschwab864 not unless your ownership share of the legal entity is not officially recorded. I find it unfathomable that I would have to detail all my cryptocurrency holdings to the government. Will never do that. So Colombia is now marked off the list of plausible residencies for me.

@illegalsmirf no one should pay tax. Abolish the corrupt racket known as government.

Andrew my understanding is that Mexico only has that 3 year (and I think it was extended to 5 years or is that Colombia?) requirement if you are citizen of Mexico. If you are only a resident card holder, I think the 3 year does not apply?

@richardbrown9344 actually ostensibly Brits also as they also gave up their guns, except those who migrated to the U.S. perhaps.

There was no bio weapon. Nothing happened except tests, jabs, and ventilators.

@nomadcapitalist I read that a wealth tax was instituted starting in 2023 which will apply to worldwide assets starting from ~$635k taxed at 0.5% per annum increasing up to 1.5%. After 2026 it is supposed to be capped at 1%. Are you aware of some workaround for this in Colombia?
1
@nomadcapitalist thank you. But I mean that if you are not citizen, I think it does not apply. Maybe you have a typo?

@josmoth6977 of course all Western retirements are doomed. The West is collapsing.

The entire West is going nuts. Canada is not far behind.

@Learned333 Well except China. I escaped Philippines Feb 2020 after living there since 2006 nonstop. The Philippines had the same crap, could not travel to another location without paperwork, jabs and emergency reason. Also they had to wear face shields plus double face diapers, including plastic sheathing between public transport passengers on the same seat, lol. Holy crap what happened to world. They also locked Filipinos up in giant stadiums packed in like sardines with no food or water. I got tired of wearing masks to the gym in Texas, so I applied for Mexican residency.

@Momana Sideka I suspect he was not referring to safety but to not giving any financial support to the Communist/Fascist morass by spending his tourist dollars there.

@youtubeuserzzzz you all need to read Anna von Reitz. Our birthright means we are not liable for any tax to the unlawful Federal govt. But you need to actually correct your status. When you were issued a birth certificate, this enrolled you as a corporate vassal and not an American State National. This corruption and deception began with the Civil War.
