I remember when I was a teenager in the 70s, there was a huge "crisis" of overpopulation. Collapse by 1990 was forecast, with mass starvation and overcrowding. Dystopian movies like Soylent Green were the zeitgeist. Exactly the opposite happened. Makes me wonder what other "crises" are wrong, or even manufactured. [I'm sure this statement will trigger someone who religiously endorses one of those crises.]

Housing costs, even availability of housing, have rarely affected the number of children born. Cost of raising them has also been a non-factor through most of history. Just look as some of the times of incredible squalor in the past. It is disingenuous just to blame it on prices. People in some of the most poverty stricken countries have a lot of children. It's not because they are stupid, rather they have a culture that venerates family and the children will care for them. Children don't care for their parents in the West and people won't forsake luxury for children in the West. Yeah, it costs a lot, but people outside the West are willing to pay that cost. People in the West are not. Yeah, economics suck bad, but it's not economics preventing child birth in the West. It is the dynamic of pitting men and women against each other for the last 4-5 decades. [ Cue triggered nay sayers.]
