I don't think it is just economics. I live in the Philippines. A lot of people here are far worse off economically than Westerners, but they have a lot of kids. Westerners won't sacrifice for children ... or marriage. That's their secular culture ... reinforced by an anti-male legal system. Not a judgement call. They can do what they want. This is just reality.

@frankfurtur5531 Yes, you are correct in all areas. But none of it has any bearing on what I said. Their fertility rate is still high for a poor country. So it's not economic. It's culture. And grand parents taking care of kids is better for the kids than daycare, but that's just my opinion. Saying people in the US don't marry or have kids because of economics is a weak argument. It's cultural.

@VitorHugoOliveiraSousa I agree with everything you said. Very nice write up. Indeed, culture and economics are often inter-twined. I guess I could have been more specific about my point. Raw numbers of earnings versus buying power between US and Philippines... US is still far ahead. So the numbers aren't what's stopping marriage and child birth. Like you said, it's the Western expectation of affluence.

@basicfilmblog I agree. All I'm saying is if people here in the Philippines can do it successfully, then economics is not a valid reason in the US ... which still enjoys affluence compared to the Philippines. It's feelings, not numbers.

@basicfilmblog I thought America was better educated than Philippines... until I came here to live. Most young Filipinos have college degrees. There aren't BS degrees. Almost all for employable work ... not like the US soft degrees. Most young people here speak 3 languages. Most Americans speak only one. The problem here is jobs and earnings. My position is that Americans can still afford to marry and have families. Just not at the high standard of living they want. That's not the same as economically impossible. There are other reasons marriages are way down in the US. One is the divorce court massively stacked against men. Marriage in the US is a huge risk for a man. Also, I don't see trauma here among kids in poor families. They are some of the happiest, kindest and most content people I have ever seen. Americans are spoiled. That's it in a nutshell.

@michaelk19thcfan10 Did you just grab the first stat you found? Google is all over the board on it ... from 1.7 to 2.75. National stats here put it at 2.47. Put some boots on the ground here, and you will see first hand that it is a young population with lots of babies. Very different from what I saw in the US just last year.

@basicfilmblog You saying it doesn't make it so. I couldn't care less what you think. Keep living in your Western bubble.

@basicfilmblog Developing nation ... development pains. Yeah, lots of work still to be done.

@tambourinedmb I agree

I agree with you 100%. It's more complex than just economics ... and as you said, Westerners will not sacrifice for children or marriage. That is so true. One of the reasons I left the West and came to the Philippines. Family, marriage and children matter here. Yeah, people make mistakes and there are often less than perfect results ... but family is almost always the most important thing.

@BM_100 Yes easily, and more. But you know ... I think you guys are right about it being economics. A couple of you brought up really good points. I believe I'm comparing apples and oranges. Kids are a net liability in the West ... negative number after all is said and done. Kids in the Philippines are a net asset ... positive number. Yeah, culture affects that ... but it's still numbers. So I think you guys are right. I was wrong.

@taras3702 Yes ... I believe you are correct

@cottoncandykawaii2673 You are 100% correct. Single parents have it a lot harder in the US in general. I've been a single parent in both cultures. More family support in the Philippines.

Hey Bo ... are you the one hiding/deleting comments as the channel owner? Or is it YT? It happens much more on your channel than others to which I subscribe.
