My ex was a nurse practitioner. I was able to go to some of the pharma dinners. No expense spared. Only the finest caviar, filet mignon and booze. Unlimited refills. But wait ... it gets even better. The doctors that gave the presentations recommending the drugs were payed around $100,000 per presentation. One of them bragged to me that a presentation once a month netted him well over $1 million a year. So pharma is not only paying for hundreds of thousands of expensive dinners to push their drugs, they also pay off doctors to shill for them.

@MikeBarbarossa The general practice doctor for whom my FNP ex worked told them, "No more than 10 minutes per patient. Prescribe them drugs and get them out the door. Only one complaint per visit. They have other complaints, have them make another appointment." It was all a mill to run as many patients as possible through for insurance payments + a bonus for drugs prescribed.
