  1. Here's the deal with rentals in the USA. All you need is another "event" and the government will make it legal for your tenants to stop paying you rent, while also making it illegal for you to evict them. Being a landlord is not the guarantee it used to be. At least if you sell the house, you have cash in hand now ... instead of losing money every month while being powerless to evict squatters out of your own property. Yeah, I'm worst-casing it ... but this worst case happened to a lot of people a few years ago.

  5. I'm an expat living in the Philippines. There are not a "lot" of guys like this here. Once in a while you see one, but the vast majority are making it just fine ... either single or in relationships. Some return back to their own countries ... others stay here. The ones who do implode like this are rare. It's just talked about a lot because it is sensational. Also, most of the Filipinas I know do NOT want to move to the US. They see it as a godless, corrupt country. There are a LOT of Filipinas who want to stay here in the Philippines. Perhaps the majority. These guys make it sound like they all want a green card. They don't. Remember, family is big here. Those who want to leave their family also have a propensity to leave their man later. Still, there are good points to be made here, so you can avoid becoming one of those guys. Most important points: 1) Have a Western stream of income before you go (don't plan on working here), 2) Don't sell all your stuff in the US until you've lived a few YEARS in the Philippines, and 3) Keep a tight hold on your wallet around women (lead with money, and you attract gold diggers). Do some research before you jump.
