I've done the step-father thing. More than once. Yeah, took me a while to learn. I will never, never, NEVER get involved again with a woman who has another man's children. Not even for friendship. You are a life support system for a wallet, with all the responsibility and none of the authority. Almost all the kids were manipulative little monsters ranging from passive disobedience all the way to police raids on our home and frequent jail time. They trash your stuff and have zero appreciation that you are the one who is bringing all the material support into the relationship and a lot of personal time. Every attempt at discipline resulted in the mother stepping in and saying she would handle it, but she never did. The kids all knew it and gamed the dynamic to the hilt. Yeah, it would be nice to give a group of kids a stable and loving environment, but it is a pipe dream. It's not going to happen. As the man, you will get used and exploited and then the mother leaves with the kids after you've paid for everything. That is Western culture. The only ... ONLY choice as a man is whether to let yourself get trapped in it or not.
