  1. A meritocracy based on virtue assumes there are actually any virtuous people around. Take a look around you and decide whether those even exist.

  2.  @chickenfishhybrid44  There are some around here too. I moved out of the city a few years back to a rural area. Much better here.

  3.  @jefferyindorf699  I totally agree. I think most virtuous people would be repulsed a the thought of going into politics. That field attracts the power hungry and a large percentage of psychopaths and other malignant personality disorders. My personal opinion is that the primary requirement for holding office should be not to want to hold office ... but how would you check for that?
