When I was 59, I was administratively forced out of my company in a rather dirty manner. I was burning out from long hours and encouraged to take short term disability offered by the company. I took 3 months, but the company stopped paying my salary after 2 weeks, citing vague insurance reasons. When I tried to return to work so I could get paid, they told me I could not until disability period ended. I'd already had enough of their nonsense, lack of integrity and bad management. I waited until the day I was supposed to return and sent in my notice via email. Neither my manager, nor my director, nor my HR rep even bothered to respond to the email. All I got was a COBRA notice in the mail a month later. I was fortunately able to retire. I don't miss the corporate clown world show at all. For all of you who will chime in that I should have sued ... I had signed an arbitration agreement years before as a condition of employment. Many of you out there have probably done the same. Arbitration would have been done by a "judge" paid by the company. No thanks. I suppose if I had deep pockets, I could have contested the arbitration ... but if I'd had deep pockets, I wouldn't have been working for those clowns.
