  1. It is because most work places are like cults, with managers being the cult leaders. You have to have people physically present to more effectively control and manipulate them. It's not about the job, it's about the corporate cult. Cult leaders don't do what makes sense, they do what get them the most attention and veneration. "Professional office culture is a powerful tool senior managers use to extract the most out of their subordinates" --> CULT! So glad I'm retired. Management can go pound sand.
