  1. Empathy "models" could be developed that could meet the needs of human to be convinced that an AI is demonstrating empathy. Remember it's humans that need to experience empathy, and if they can be "tricked" into it, that may well be good enough for an AI to replace people in certain roles, for example, a customer complaints department.
