  1. I'm not a fan of R&B music, but I can see why they cast her. On one hand, the story is from Denmark, and a lot of white people live in Denmark. On the other, the underwater sequences of the original (along with Kiss The Girl) seemed heavily influenced off the Caribbean. And even if it wasn't (although it wouldn't have been as good of a movie), the mermaid was a lot creepier in the original story. Besides, they're telling it the way they want to. It might even be different from the original. And not just because of Halle Bailey, or Awkwafina playing Scuttle (it isn't the first time she replaced a dude).
