Windows Phone was dead from the start the reason is that Microsoft chose to follow the same path as usual with Windows for laptops/desktops and handed the software over to the device manufacturers but there was a problem, Android was better and it was first so Windows Phone would always play 2nd place which means it could never catch up to Android even if it did sell well, there just were not enough models and total units being produced. The only way for Microsoft to have won against Android were to follow the Apple model and open their own manufacturing facilities from scratch in China and make their own phones 100% in house. However, with all of the major projects at Microsoft like AZURE the company just had focus elsewhere and I guess they just could not put down such a massive investment So that was it.
