This is because the USA and USSR were not rouge nations. Nazi Germany and Japan were rouge nations. There is a clear difference between nations in a dash for world conquest at all costs and those that operate in a strategic way like USA and USSR or Russia today. I think a good signal as to why China is so dangerous today is that it is heading for that rouge nation place and while the USA and Russia have their differences I think they both can see the future a mile away and will need to come together to solve another major world problem.

@petergilkes7082 China is dangerous because they are aggressive and rouge nation. They threaten to nuke their neighbors and actively are fighting on the border of India and Nepal as well as building heavily armed artificial islands in international waters including the world's largest nuclear submarine base. Not even Russia has ever done something like that. Keep in mind China is threatening every single day in both rhetoric and action the following countries: Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Japan, Thailand, South Korea and Taiwan and if they go to war these countries would all fall victim unless they work together which is what they are doing now. The USA and the west have limited resources in the area and may bail out if the threat of nuclear war becomes too real.
