This video missies very important details, #1 Gary was a company town for poor immigrants and low income workers it became but after a few years of working there people made lots of cash and moved further away in to the suburbs for way nicer homes, new homes at the time and to get nice land to raise a family, better school and shopping. It is the same today #2 Gary works is till 100% in operation today you can find video of their operations here on Youtube but the quantity is much reduced and a lot of steps are automated however that could of course change in the future in case trade with China were to collapse and anything can happen. #3 A lot of industry has moved to rural areas, large new industrial parks just look at the massive number of new factories and industry in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake, all over Texas, Georgia and so on. #4 A lot of metal working has moved to smaller fabricators rather than large facilities like Gary Works. #5 The USA moved from Steel to concrete for things like bridges and large fabrication of road and rail infrastructure so it lowered the demand for Steel.
