  2. To end the war early, the US army was looking at the risk of losing over a Million Americans solders from invading Japan proper. Nukes saved the lives of allot of people on both sides. Also Russia was getting ready to invade and risk splitting Japan in 2.

This is very different, Putin is bent on taking all of Ukraine against it's will and knowingly wants to destroy the Ukraine people, culture, religion and history and plunder the country for population and resources. There is simply no path to diplomacy only possibly a future ceasefire but assured continuation of the war eventually. Ukraine and Russia is not WW1 or WW2 since there are only 2 sides to the story, this is a very 21st century war, 2 clear sides. Also in Asia over Taiwan again 2 clear sides of the story. We thankfully do not have the complicated alliances and world order of WW1 or WW2, the world is pretty black and white today for the better.
