Nah people will just move to another city. The USA is just too big to allow that kind of manipulation. People will move. My friend just moved from Seattle to Huntsville Alabama not only does he have a very cheap house he bought for cash but the local Tech jobs are plentiful at least what he does and he scored a job in days of moving there, just days. Really cool. Look at the number of people that moved from here in Seattle to Tennessee if people are priced out they head out.

2018 the FED had a rate of 2.5% and house prices fell nicely, and the current long term FED prediction (Dot Plot) is 2.5% so I think 2018 prices are pretty good end point but that depends on where the FED goes. That crazy thing is that in 2018 it was Donald Trump that yelled at the FED to lower rates that forced them to pivot down to 1.5% becasue the stocks were falling, I don't like when politics messes up the FED it causes house prices to rise artificially but that is a problem when you have someone like Trump who linked stock market as an approval rating for himself that is no good.

Every country is different for example in Canada you can only lock your mortgage rate for a few years like 5 years while we can lock a rate for 30 years so hard to compare apples to oranges . Also every city is different. Los Angeles will be hard to find a cheap single family house but look at Sacramento and it is a totally different game.
