The US overall pretty much left Afghanistan in 2014 that is when Bagram closed and the US would never operate without a large air power so that tells the story. Osama was captured and at the time President Obama put an end to the war. Another example is that in the last 5 years only 7 American solders died in Afghanistan if they were actually fighting that would be much higher.
