  1. It makes sense that Gavin was the failure point by not securing the bridge. Perhaps there was a thought that the Germans were not aware of what the operation was trying to do so they would not realize how critical the bridge was but the operation plans falling in to German hands and having one of the best person for the task leading the German side absolutely secured that failure point. The Germans ran for the bridge and the American thought they had all the time in the world. He should have collected all of his forces and abandoned the landing zone to secure the objective. Gavin wrote 5 books including his last one "On to Berlin: Battles of an Airborne Commander 1943–1946" I ordered it on Amazon and I am curious what he had to say.
