  1. This is just a Maglev train (which already exists and is in use in Japan, Germany, China) and shoved in to a metal pipe for no reason at all, this is just a total scam. I was on the one in Hong Kong and it was pretty fast but it is not a long ride. The issue is that between say LA and San Fran you need to cross over 2 mountain chains and travel the long way through central valley so such a rail no matter what method used will always cost much more perhaps even triple the price of flying since many tunnels and bridges will be needed and the distance is long as it is not in straight line. The train will probably not enter LA or SanFran but terminate before and on each side one would need to travel by bus or light rail so a total for 3 methods of transport and even a further 2 with uber rides to the light rail or bus. Meaning leaving the home and taking as many as 5 modes of transit uber-light rail-high speed rail-bus-uber vs just 3 for flying Uber-airport-uber and still pay 2-3-4 times more for high speed rail and there will still be long security lines anyway... Really, people will fly or drive. Rail is not a solution. I think money is far better spent Improving highway 101 to 4 lanes on either side and tunnel to bypass Santa Barbra area.
