Empires always have an expire date becasue they dominate over other cultures and people that eventually want to manage their own country and desire freedom. The British Empire especially was a challenge due to the distance across world oceans, the USSR was really the last Empire to fall and that was easy to dominate as Russia is right on the border yet that still collapsed anyway. The one funny case is the USA that people love to call an Empire but it only had a short run of trying to control Philippines and Liberia but that was very short lived, and the USA does not administer over any other cultures today except maybe Puerto Rico

@daniscorpio That depends on the time period in the age of sail yes the Spanish were technologically ahead so were the Portuguese EVEN the start of the industrial revolution the Spanish were one of the first countries to jump in as they had the largest Empire in early 1800 - but the British totally dominated in the rest of the age of Industrialization as the British Empire grew to far larger size and scale of trade that totally eclipsed the Spanish Empire that was heavily fading away by the mid 1800s but both the Spanish and British empires were living on borrowed time as controlling and dominating over other people and cultures far away from your own homeland is always temporary.

That is mostly the fault of the voters - they demand services but are not willing to allow taxes to go up so that is the outcome. You see this all over the western world becasue growth is slow in the west for the most part it means that any increase in spending or inflation forces a rise in tax in a natural way to gain the funds - but instead the people in the west in general have become like Allergic to taxes so they want more services but are not willing to take on higher taxes so debt rises until it is no longer manageable and the tower of debt, lack of tax income leads to big mess. There needs to be a change of mentality that if you want more services if there is inflation - tax has to go up, up and up more. And the people have to accept it or make large cuts to spending and services. So expect less.

UK produces lots of stuff - airplane engines and is a world leader in that, cars are a major export even though the quantity is down the value of each car and price is way way up so big money involved. UK exports a lot of food and drinks, higher end foods at higher values. Chemicals as well as medication The UK also still builds some large ships unlike the USA that totally abandoned commercial ship building which is a big hit to the US economy, the UK still builds at least 1 cruise ship at any give them which is a lot of money also wind turbines and specialty electronics. The UK did lose it's mass production of things like shows, textiles, knives, kitchen items, mass tool making, so UK did lose a lot of big manpower industry and that is terrible the USA also of course went on the same path during Regan and never recovered.

@hmu05366 The USA is not an empire of any kind neither is it Colonial the USA does not have any control over other nations as all the Democratic countries in the world are self-governed. The only aspect of the USA is that it is a trusted place to do finance so people invest in to the USA through Wall Street but that is neither imperial or colonial. The USA is simply an attractive investment as a nation one of many. You can as easily buy stocks and invest in to China or Russia or India, every country would love to have your investment money. That does not make your choice where to invest in to an Empire that's not how it works. American companies are only what they are if you buy their product. This is not an Empire by any definition. Keep in mind that for every product made by an American company there are competing products, so it is simply a factory of people's choice of what product to buy. That is free market forces not Empire of course.

@lemdixon01 The USA does not have 750 military bases it has like 35 that are actually in use, that really is not much.

@lemdixon01 The US Culture that people decide to adopt is personal choice, it is each and every persons choice to watch US TV and listen to US Music but the companies and artitsts that create this media never meant for people outside the USA to watch or listen to it, that was the freedom of each person to CHOOSE to like it and watch or listen to it. This is not on purpsoe this is by people's personal choice the USA is not an empire dont be foolish

@Ролтун The USSR dominated over other peoples and cultures like the British Empire. It had control over other populations and that never ends well.

@volcom1827 France, UK, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, USA, Spain, and other countries all own little islands their past had taken control over. The largest is Greenland controlled by Denmark. And Falklands islands controlled by the UK and Kaliningrad controlled by Russia, it used to be part of Poland/Germany. USA never had an empire but got them due to war with Spain.
