  1. What I don't get about mathmaticians is why worry about abstract problems that sometimes have no real world analog? Balancing a checkbook is important, cryptography/internet security is too, but why worry about things like 3x +1 if it has no practical use other than to trigger OCD patients and keep the mental health system employed?
