The key to being a successful con man is to quit while you are ahead and disappear before you get caught. Same for a career as a gambler. The day I get $34M is the day I retire and get a new identity and some cosmetic surgery and go live on my own yacht complete with floating artificial island in tow in international waters after giving up my citizenship. What Bernard Madoff should have done when he hit $50B and the end was in sight (ie when he couldn't pay anyone without checks bouncing or even a few months before that when he couldn't get any new investors on board).

Meh, I was going to set up a Ponzi scheme on Squarespace until Simon told me not to. He just cut the number of potential Squarespace customers in half, since just about everyone is a con man.

@Mitche23 That just sped up the inevitable. Everyone needed to cash out all at once when their other investments tanked and he couldn't pay what they were promised. Even w/o the crash he was headed for dire straits anyway, it would have just been a few years later. Personally I would have took the money and ran after a month of no new money invested because it quickly goes down hill from there. Though actually running with even $10B would probably be difficult (110 tons of $100 bills), best to quietly convert it all into mobile property (ie floating island or my own aircraft carrier) and hire my own mercenary army to defend it.

Meh if anything we need more antisemitism, less people would be ripped off. Only reason it's considered bad is the gov't doesn't mind as long as they get to tax it and antisemitism would reduce their tax base.

So he basically ripped off a bunch of greedy rich people that deserved to be ripped off. I don't see how that is a bad thing, not like he ripped off a bunch of orphanages and thousands of children starved to death as a result. If you can't afford to lose it all then don't gamble or invest it.

Hunter D yup, antisemite and proud of it, as everyone should be. Half the US's, and by extension the world's, problems would go away if they just let Israel burn with the rest of the Middle East. Better to use the military guarding our own borders and minding our own business.

Hunter D some god had nothing to do with it. And it didn't lose, politics and policies simply change over time, and if Japan didn't strike us first we would still be isolationist today and Japan would probably still have their empire. I'm sure eventually the US will go back to it, if for no other reason to prevent it from going the way of the USSR since policing the world and kissing ally ass indefinitely will eventually become unaffordable. I say let China police the world if they wish (thankfully they don't care what other nations are doing as long as they buy something, outside of their region at least), in a few years they will have the biggest GDP anyway.
