  1. 20 years for a long laundry list of crimes. Extortion was just one of them. Also keep in mind in the 1970's and 1980's there were few "tough on crime" policies so automatic death penalty or life without parole for murder was rare. With 15 years it was probably downgraded to manslaughter as a plea deal or something.
