Yes Monaco is one of the best places. If you can afford to buy a property there and live 6 months out of the year, you can get residency very fast ; you can also rent (which is one of the requirements to find a place to live before you get granted the residency). Property value can double in just a few years and since it's a small country, the demand will always be higher than the offer. Results : prices are going up. Once you sell your property, you won't have to pay any tax on capital gain '0'. Bottom line : you will get richer and richer ! Due to extremely high security there, your fortune will always be protected, unlike in some countries like the Dominican Republic or Jamaica or where ever people are poor.

@libertarianspirit Amazing I am in Portugal right now but I am afraid it may be a little too late as so many retirees moving here for tax saving purpose.

Yes it's true but you also need to have a place to live in Monaco before you ask for residency.

@libertarianspirit I meant it's too late in the sense that they are so many foreigners coming in and so few properties that are worth investing into for the required prices that maybe it's not really worth it anymore.

@libertarianspirit Yes correct it's more fun for vacation. Decide on where you want to invest in Portugal and really inspect the property you want to buy. They are not well built for the most part. Not well isolated ; most of them don't even have a central heater and believe me, it can get cold in Portugal in the winter. And also keep in mind that the Atlantic oceans is dam cold, unlike the Mediterranean sea where you can easily swim from May until October !

@libertarianspirit I totally understand what you are saying. Living in Europe is not very easy if you come from the US. Europeans are usually more close minded and more reserved maybe more 'family oriented; and of course, there's always the language barrier. So many different languages in Europe and different mentalities...It's hard to make friends or even acquaintances. I don't know much about Malta. Personally, i don't really like to stay in an island. I think it gets boring very soon. In Portugal, except outside the big cites, they don't really speak English. The food is cheap, going out is cheap, drinking is cheap, electricity bills are high. Private health care is not cheap either, although not as expensive as in the US. Portugal is very safe and liberal.

@libertarianspirit The best then is to rent a property outside the big cities in Portugal. You can have a 2 bedroom for 450 euros/month in the Center Region of Portugal. Only 1 hour from Lisbon by bus and the bus ride will cost you between 2.99 and 5.99 euros. Very convenient without spending the big city rent like in Lisbon. Then you can easily go to Cascais, Estoril and enjoy a day at the beach but don't need to live there. Well, it all depends on your budget and preferences. If you avoid the winter months, the Center is fine.

Be careful about Latvia. The banks are very difficult to deal with and check everything about you, your past and go back even 15, 20 years back. When it comes to health benefits, there is no program for people who do not work there and there is a lack of funding in their public health care so it's not good. Then of course, you will have to learn Russian or Latvian which are not easy languages. LOL
