Back in my times when you took an "AI class" at college (said class, for the sake of clarity, would be "Introduction to Neural Networks", the term "deep learning" hadn't been invented yet because, while all the theory was there (without the curlicues), the machines weren't really all that powerful and the learning libraries absent and the GNU C compiler was buggy, too) you wouldn't "drop out" as it would be your 3rd or 4th year (there was no textbook, so I went to the shop and randomly selected "Introduction To The Theory Of Neural Computation" by John Hertz, then went through the theory while not practicing exercises, bad idea, as the prof went for the practice). What changed. 😂

Do they want a Japan simulator with actual settings or some fantasy setting with fights, blacks & stuff where you can mix & match and sell to the urban market and the international market? "(Samurai Shamploo" the anime is basically that.) They could have done something steampunk like "The Difference Engine" where historical figure Honorable Mori Arinori visits the British Empire in 1880 to find out more about crazy British computing power, and nobody would have complained.

The Japanese "culturally appropriated" massively from Germany prior to 1900 for example to get ahead after the Perry Expedition imposed an outside context problem. There is nothing wrong with that.
