Sorry to hear bro, got laid off myself too. 10 years at one company. Don’t blame yourself, the leaders are the ones responsible for f*cking about with the finances putting these companies in these precarious situation!!!

Changing career at 29, bagging 6-7 years of experience, life is so random, and unplanned, yet me starting as a Junior .Net developer, you've opened my eyes to be prepared for such situation, subscribed to you channel, stay strong brother.

This too shall pass. Stay strong.

This kids, is how you succeed. No long preamble, no quick guides on who or what to follow. Just fail, and succeed, and fail, and succeed again. I hope things work out for you and your family and keep on keepin on.

The GitHub was accidentally private, but it is fixed now and should work! Please let me know in your comments if you have any questions.

I’m so glad you went over the technologies used for your project in such detail. Luckily enough my bootcamp had a bonus task to dabble with React Redux and now I’m building a chat app with React Native. Great advice Phil!

Every junior developer should see this. Success is the product of daily habits

Getting a glimpse of your project was awesome. ✨🔥

This is very motivating. Without a csdegree I gained and lost my coding job and it was a huge blow to my confidence. I had to learn Angular, MongoDB, Typescript, NodeJS I learned so much! I'm not in development anymore but I really want to try again. I'm glad to see a developer without a cs degree still grinding.
52
Be kind to yourself! Lay offs are really rough for anyone... and remember that what happened is not your fault. Thank you for sharing this.
39
You are the voice of a lot of us bro. Take care and thank you for sharing your story. Looking forward to hearing more about your journey that so many of us are in as well.

For these type of projects I use Flutter for the mobile app and Node/Express for the backend. For the frontend of the webpart I use Angular with PrimeNG UI library. For the database I use EdgeDB because my applications tend to have more complex data models and EdgeDB makes that as simple as possible.

Whatever you said about going back to resources when fell attacked is 100% accurate. In my learning journey this the most eye opening lesson to have. I used this mindset in different problems like in life, coding etc. Your journey is very inspiring as I was having my self-doubt phase and wanted some motivation. Keep it up🙏

I like using Chat GPT to explain code in various ways. Also gotta love those tests. Never had gotten into it, until I started my mentorship with you. Def makes the code bullet proof 🔥
32
Sending you lots of love my friend. I hope you are able to make it through this tough time.
30
I wish you the best of luck! I'm currently learning to code after deciding that law school wasn't for me, and I just turned 30. Sending you great vibes and energy along the way.

Phil personally helped me a lot when I was a new junior developer . Anyways, super friendly and knowledgeable guy, a true underdog story. Ask my guy here anything, I am sure he'll answer quick.
25
This is very eye-opening. I am in my first year of college going into computers. and I'm trying to start a project in order to gain experience. Seeing all those files and folders was very overwhelming. It looks so complicated. However this just keeps me motivated to keep learning. Thank you for making this video! 💯
24
Bro you should start a business teaching others how to code . You're leveraging the max out of both your skillsets in teaching and coding.

Actually Jesus saves lives
16
when you say coding saves lives... ive been saying that to myself, holding onto some hope ill be able to land my first job, and then have a paycheck. Ive been unemployed for a long time now, and I have no career opportunities. This is my glimmer of hope to a better life. Some days are very dark and uncertain right now.
15
you should stop smoking man, just a word of advice. I know it'll help you relieve stress from coding and other stuff but your health will just deteriorate.
15
I feel a significant difference between when i used to code on my own before llms blew up in HS vs rn in college. Chatgpt helps out a lot when i need to know something or implement it but dont really have extremely clear background knowledge like regex stuff or implementing more complicated architectures in deep learning I think another important thing is to know when to stop, sometimes i find myself diving way too deep into tiny aspects and wasting a lot of time reinventing the wheel, its satisfying but definitely hinders pace
15
Damn, 2025 is gonna be hard to get that job as an entry level dude, but step by step we get there guys
15
I love the baby sound in the back LOL. Coding is the new self improvement
15
I'm 24 currently stuck in life, no job and no motivations to do anything. But since I found your channel you've been such an inspiration for me. I started coding everyday learning and working toward my goal (Getting a job and become financially independent ) And for the first time I feel I can succeed in it. Thank you so much for your videos, they have a great impact on me.
15
They're going to start replacing workers with AI, your job won't exist in 10 years.
13
Stay strong Phillip. I can relate, about the same age as you with a baby daugther. You will find a new job and thrive
13
every month family burns a lot of money. as the time passes you can feel more stressed about it.
13
love your energy man. Good luck to you and Ill wait for your videos
12
Took me around 150 applications. I got lucky compared to some people 😢
12
Youtube algorinthm likes you bro.

Imo the main problem is not the using code from AI. The main problem is use this code and doesn't even try how tf this code works. We're living in powerful times, that's technology can resolve many problems especially in IT development, but we should use this tools with right purpose. As a Junior Java Developer that's doesn't even have one full year of commercial expierence always in first step i try to my best to understand all stuff by myself, but if i've appear some problem then i'm really kean on to use AI, but every time when i use chat, i request prompt into a chat i always said it ("Explain me this as simple as you can"). Very often chat can paraphrase some stuff more simplest than some teachers or docs (even if this should be our main source of knowldege but a lof to people know how to make a code but cannot describe it in simple way) If my English is bad, sorry but i'm not native speaker.
12
there were no tech layoffs in Japan, infact they are very desperate for new engineers, mid engineers and senior engineers. so when people say the market is bad its usually just the market in the west that people are speaking off. how about korea ?
12
A Banger after banger after banger. That's how we do it now.
11
build your own fully functional MVC app (without a framework, or chatgpt) and you good
11
Thanks for sharing. I work in IT, I love computers but I want to be in a position where I can make a difference. I am 35 and started learning coding in January but stopped in May since the classes ended. (I need to continue studying on my own) One thing I realized after months of learning, coding is something I may like to continue pursuing because it involves problem solving and it’s satisfying once you solved a problem. But I need to stop gaming and replace that time with learning a new skill for a better future for myself.
11
ngl man this are very common projects i dont think a recruiter dev will be impressed by this
10
just go to Germany. We are 10 years behind the curve

Pain gives us two choices. We can either be destroyed by it or we can use it to change our current situation that we hate. Thanks Phil for the philosophy. Get it? 👊
10
You dont need a cs degree, its a waste of time. Just pick a project and do it
10
Hey Phil, thank you for being the senior developer who had grit because if I didn’t run into you in Korea I would have given up in coding. But I’m lit now thanks to you 🤣👊
10
thank you for the suggestion. please keep a look out on the next couple of videos

"Fighting with the computer" - that's why I hated being a developer. Also fighting with a lot of (often very) badly designed and written code that had been hacked out by many a poor trained coder several years prior.

Pain just means we are becoming stronger ❤
