As a little girl, my parents had a house in Bel Air. I remember it very clearly. It was very quiet and peaceful up there, and the homes were all beautiful! What I remember most as a little girl was the pretty gold faucets, the HUGE house, and the fact that the backyard was basically on a cliff. There was a fence that kept us from falling down into another person's backyard. This is where my Mom took us in her new Fairlane convertible to see our Aunt. In those days (1965) we were left in the car for just moments while she went for our Aunt. This was common then. My big brother jumped into the front seat, "played" like he was driving, hit the gearshift and we began to roll! We all jumped out of the car, as it proceeded to go through a backyard fence, over the cliff, and down into a man's swimming pool! My Dad had to pay BIG $$$ to lift the car out of the pool by crane, repair the pool and grounds, buy a new fence, and get my mom a new car! Needless to say, it is a family story we will never forget. It was a GREAT place to trick or treat! But, the house burnt down in one of California's fires and we had to move. This place holds precious memories and it should be saved in every sense from the wrecking ball...the "OLD" is most often much prettier and more stunning than anything "new", but sadly it is a bit of wisdom that is lost on the generations coming in now...by the time you realize its value...it is gone.
