Thanks for another great episode and confirming my belief that the Merchant Raiders were the most cost effective Naval branch ... especially when you consider the capture of the Singapore Dossier .... I have heard it made the Japanese think that an invasion of Singapore was possible ...

The US Navy learned just about everything it knew until about WW2 from the British Navy… much of it the hard way … then we still wouldn’t listen … armored Carriers , convoys… and I’m not sure we ever thanked Britain for centimetric Radar …officially

Now the great question about Brass Cased Shells and their merits vrs Bagged Powder and their respective histories … ?
3
Well Done ..! 👍

The Royal Navy has more operational experience in the horrid conditions of the North Sea and above the arctic circle than other Navies… seems like the greatest testing site for foul conditions are quite close by … and designs can be shaken down close to home …is their a certain place they took new designs to see how they ran ..!?
3
Thanks so much for another fascinating tour of Naval History , I wonder about the VT fuse on the American 5” gun and how big a difference it made ... hopefully that and radar fire control will be the next show !!!

@frankbodenschatz173 thanks

@mindbomb9341 touché … flat earth is fir those who aren’t ready to go full blown Quanon

Gunnage per Tonnage…or GPT …. Would it be best expressed in broadside weight or inertia plus payload squared maybe cubed …?
2
Washington vrs Yamato .. that would have been the greatest shootout since Jutland .. Admiral Lee vrs Kurita ... Advanced Radar vrs Early to None ....
2
@charliezw3287 Naval Cheese History.. it’s a niche subject..
2
The Time Warp of a Brand New Battleship vrs the Last generation Biplane .... threw off the Fire control computer... it was shooting 20 years ahead !
2
@charliezw3287 but what Kind of cheese was it .. ? Some aged Asiagos are pricey…

2
Bon Jour Monsieur Dranchinifel .. !
2
Maybe just change the name from Destroyer to Saver or Evacuator…or Emergency Utility Vessel… The USS Ward was later converted into some kind of fast landing ship .. would it have worked well in that role ?
2
@88porpoise .. it’s tough to do a live shot .. but the weather did cooperate..
2
@leftcoaster67 I just watched the Movie Battle Of Britain ..Classic Robert Shaw ..
2
Thanks for Another great episode .... About the Dolittle Raid .. “I could never get that lucky twice “ Jimmy Doolittle .... a good question is how did it affect Japanese Strategic thinking and or redeployment of defensive Air assets to the home islands ?
2
Destroyer battles in the channel yes ! ….…. This story is way better than that horrible movie anyway … !
2
X marks this spot on Drach’s History Treasure Map 🗺….Thanks for the tour ..
2
Has anyone done the math on the potential impact a working mark -14 would have had on the early part of the war…?
2
Yes indeed ... It would be interesting to have a large scale re-enactment of Jutland at a soccer pitch .... with moving models and fireworks , etc . Plus Cheerleaders ! And Beer ! That might hold me over till six nations Rugby starts ...
2
When you just got to get rid of that crabgrass ...
2
America Wishes the HMS Prince of Wales and crew a safe voyage and deployment on this side of the pond ..Hope you get some good port calls ..!
2
Well I have rewatched this episode at least 10 times in the last four years … there is something about these little ships and their brave crews that speaks volumes … Thanks and Cheers Drach ….!
2
I think this is one of the greatest examples of valor imaginable along with the battle off Samar !
2
Wow !
2
The Glowworm set a high standard … but then so did the RN Destroyers at Narvik and the Mediterranean and everywhere else they sailed
2
Audacity seems to be a character trait in Royal Naval Ships …. Call it a given….
2
Got Victory Disease ….? Just Try the Midway Cure … Take two thousand pounders and call me in the morning… from your life raft
2
Lord Cherwell … I’m not a big Fan … He told Frank Whittle the jet engine was impossible and Told R V Jones that Germany didn’t have any V weapons “ ironic because my then 3 year old Mom was evacuated from The London area because of them “ did he Foul up any progress in the Royal Navy as well .. like centrimetric radar …?

Happy Birthday 🎉

Guide # 350 … Wow ….! Thanks Very much Drach …!
2
@rooksfoot1184 Rewatching Guide to Warships right now as well..!
2
@georgesoros6415 Excellent Point …. I hope Drach does a E boat episode or episodes there is nothing out there about those fascinating craft ….cause pound for pound they and the u boats really did a lot of damage … if Germany had started the war with 300 E and 300 U boats … it might have gone somewhat differently….?
2
Please do make a return trip … and your opinion and top 5 Tank Destroyers .. and the Amphibious truck DUKW sounds like a fun ride … sea state permitting
1
Underway replenishment of a Super carrier is a sight to behold ... Food Glorious Food ... Ordinance ... and 90, 000 pounds of frozen veal cutlet .... we got to human chain that 4 decks down ...
1
Have a safe and enjoyable trip … !
1
@evensgrey Exactly plus Foils are delicate… great if your on a Kite Board or small dingy … our Carrier routinely visited Naples Italy and they had those ferry’s zipping around on their Foils going to Capri .. but their is no way your getting a 60,000 ton carrier up on a Foil … yet … but even those new Zumwalt class are a big disappointment… plus they corrode to pieces … besides when your at sea the coolest thing is to go forward and watch the bow cutting trough the ocean ..
1
In the bang for yourASW buck category ... I think the winner is the flower class ...? What’s your opinion ?
1
I Hope The USS Saratoga Had Towing Insurance … Because Emergency Roadside Assistance Fees for a 25,000 ton plus the flooding … ship…. In a Combat Zone ? Expensive …
1
Guadalcanal was the Decisive Battle disguised as the Decisive Campaign…. Thanks Drach for a excellent series ….
1
Had to rewatch this Milestone episode …. and what a pleasant surprise it was …Many Thanks to our Author for a channel whose shows are interesting from the 1st to 30th viewing ..
1
That’s the first time I heard the story on how you started your channel … congratulations on being the source for naval history … And not having to commute daily in a sardine can …
1
Especially when water gets involved …!
1
It’s my annual rewatch of Episodes … The F-4 Skyray has no flying examples.. such an injustice.. while not on the same level as USS Enterprise or HMS Warspite … still a shame just on ascetics alone .. not to mention all those records
