Cam ships should be in the dictionary under “stop gap measures “ it is one of the finest example of the term … the Allies had two perfectly good autogyros and nevertheless nether the Pa-30 or the Kellet was ever used unlike Japan who had a couple of ASW Carriers with autogyros

Well done 👍….thanks Ed Nash … but still no sliding canopy… it’s a good thing they didn’t put those engines into full scale production on the FW 190 …
3
I saw an unconfirmed report that Russian Marines have mutinied onboard a ship … hoping it’s true ..
3
Eric Brown wasn’t impressed by the P47 .. as he flew up to 8 different planes in one day , I wonder if he got a bad or out of tune aircraft.. his Mach numbers were quite lower than the P47 was capable of …
3
Thanks Ed … She sure is one beautiful aircraft.. even on the ground she’s very poised … It would really take a horrible mind to cancel such a splendid plane ..yet another reason I don’t think very much of Duncan Sands ..
3
Exactly…..! The F-18 is Marine Proof and Carrier Proven ….
2
@Packless1 the Germans were way ahead with their designs
2
The B -29’s engines were notorious for catching on fire and those Magnesium rich Crankcases were impossible to put out … Didn’t the RAF modify some Lancaster’s to deliver the A bomb .. the B29 was still iffy even late in the war … a friends dad was stationed in Tinian and he sad the engine fires were a nightmare …
2
I wonder how many Eindecker Pilots were killed by their planes vicious Stall characteristics.. too bad there aren’t any Fleas left in museums… Many thanks for this episode of the aerodynamically bizarre
2
Definitely as many updates as you would care to make ..
2
Those airship hangers are really incredible… I was stationed at NAS Lakehurst and they had converted one into a scale Carrier flight Deck, for training flight deck personal.. was the Corsair’s duralumin armor the same material pioneered by the German Zeppelin program ..?
2
I would be scared to pull that wing folding lever….Im not sure if you do Tank Engines but the V2 Diesel in the T-34 and the KV … was the best of WW2 but the designer was shot in Stalin’s Purges
2
I’m not sure if a non area rule aircraft will go supersonic .. ?
2
We are getting someone else to whip the Rooskies behinds for us ….. a war we have been avoiding since 1945 …. A war ….which thankfully is not in our countries …and can be won ..al this and rather affordably for us indeed … so it’s the Ukrainians who are really paying the bill …
2
@pierredecine1936 It’s really a symbol of how Putin is destroying Russia it’s history , it’s legacy , and it’s future
2
@sixpackpilot those Frogfoot attack aircraft are pretty versatile…
2
The Russian Morale Gauge must be pretty much on E … the troops from the north are irradiated, frost bitten defeated , disillusioned and probably have dysentery … so they probably aren’t very motivated I’m wondering if the Russian army is having any disease outbreaks like during the Crimean War
2
@bigblue6917 no 600$ toilet seat
2
First ..!
2
@allangibson2408 tanks are much more intimidating on parade … stuck in the mud on fire 🔥 comically inept …
2
Thanks Ed I never have heard of these models .. until now .. But Why Messerschmidt never put on a bubble canopy on any of their 109’s …. When The FW 190 had one all along along with allied fighters … the bird cage style of the 109 seems to be hard to bail out of .. or get out of if the plane is upside down …
2
It’s in a better place …!
2
Taliban 2.0
2
I’m sure the US is putting the F-35 on special to give our allies a Gen 5 fighter …
2
@retr0_fps you know how we colonials are mate … the English language is fair game …
2
@iatsd have you ever considered the advantage of manners or shutting the hell up …?
2
One of the Russians Army’s biggest WW2 secret weapons was Lend lease Equipment…3000 A-20 bombers just for example…stuff that doesn’t make the propaganda reels
1
The Fashion Wears out More Airframes than the War …
1
Imagine what was going through the minds of the guys driving the boats on the run in to the target ..?
1
Tally Ho … !
1
The Martin Baker MB-7 ejection seat saved one of our officers lives following a Ramp Strike onboard a carrier … sadly our pilot was never found … the plane had rolled due to the landing gear being torn off … no fault of the seat .. but it was one of those rare cases when even a zero/zero seat was unable to prevail …
1
One cutting edge design feature at a time please …. It’s Aerodynamic mania …. and unproven engines …. It’s not going to end well
1
All she ever wanted was a two stage two speed supercharger.. I wonder what combination of factors made this plane such a good plane for Russia
1
Soviet Style Tactics and Soviet Era Repression and Gulaging will result in a 90’s Soviet Meltdown … probably around the time Putin has to name a successor …
1
Putin wants The USSR back and ….then it will end in a Soviet style collapse when it comes time for a successor…..
1
Afghanistan’s population has almost doubled in the last 20 years …. Many of those are children … our Media and politicians are unable to articulate a reason fir staying ..and the US public just wants to watch Sports … very few of our politicians have military experience a recipe for the disaster we are witnessing…. The British experience “the Grim “ in the area is worth studying …!
1
@warpartyattheoutpost4987 Fox News Wants You … to Love Big Brother ….
1
@warpartyattheoutpost4987 I’m more into the big verb or adverb and if things get real bad .. I unpack my adjectives… and I’m always headed for conjunction junction sooner or later
1
@Mike-DuBose Might as well ..!
1
10,600 lbs of armament… and the pilot had his 45 …..just in case ..and the Skyraider was a plane so good it might be worth bringing back ….! “ Little Dieter Needs to Fly “ is about a sky raider pilot a movie that’s worth a watch
1
Seems like the V-1 would have been the ideal Kamikaze Aircraft … a la Hanna Reich ..
1
@EdNashsMilitaryMatters I was in the Marines Aviation F-4 phantoms … we went for a med cruise 81 during the gulf of Sidrah incident …we ended up going to the sea of Murmansk 100 miles from Russia… NATO operation Joint Friendship … we got to tell the Admiral Kherov Missile Cruiser to … well you know … Cheers
1
Not Mitchell’s most elegant design ….but was it a reclining sofa ..?
1
This makes me think of the work of Fairbairn & Sykes who used steel armor in Hong Kong and their famous knife and fighting style … not exactly saving lives though ..!
1
Barnes Wallace .. now that’s a man who’s name is synonymous with genius on so many levels …. Thanks to the author for this one …possibly the best episode yet …!
1
Your so right…. They are quite beautiful Aircraft ..
1
Now That’s a plane that looks fast even on the flight line …Yet again a great story … which has led me to wonder ….why they didn’t put a bubble canopy on the 109 ….and is it true the fuselage on the 109 cost 1/3 of the spitfire’s
1
Banzai …!
1
That could have been the Terror of the Battle of Britain ….and the fuselage looks like the predecessor to the ME 262 …I guess Kurt Tank didn’t have the connections that Wiley Messerschmidt had … it seems like Tank’s planes were far superior …
1
@sixpackpilot they work great on dirt or bombed runways … the old Soviet doctrine…
