He once said at a rally after the 2016 election that he’d say “drain the swamp” during the campaign and get such a positive reaction that he’d keep saying it “until I started meaning it.” That’s how it is with the wall: the only reason he’s doing it isn’t because he thinks it’s right, but because his base likes when he says “build the wall”

Though I'm a little dubious as to whether he would still be able to pull that off after two years in office, especially after the bump stock ban. And depending on how the shutdown turns out, he'll either make his base forget all about it or they'll think he's no more authentic than anyone else in Washington.
