The standard box magazine also produces less drag, so it feeds a bit quicker than the drum Ian first used.

Watch "Tales of the Gun"
3
Nope. That only works for boats and the European air forces'.

@goatboy ,not that I would ever have any problem being called "dude" as I say that fairly often. (: "mate" is plenty fine too, Aussie goatboy, lol.
2
It was a good joke tho .. I like movies, just wanted to give Jim Sullivan the credit he's due. (:
2
goatboy , nahh, you'd have to be 103 ( not kidding ) to be my actual father, lol. Though I understand you meant no harm, so it's all good. Hopefully Ian can find a way to fulfill your wish, one day. (:

AK already has a counter balance system available in a special model.
2
Sort of, kind of. The Lewis can simulate a continuous push with the right rate of fire dialed in. This gun is built with a system that creates a "constant recoil" effect by changing the internals to make room for: stronger springs, a large heavy bolt, longer bolt travel, and rate of fire reducer, among other things.
1
Morphy's extraordinary firearms auction, it has a lot of machine guns. (:
1
Ian's dad was on 'Tales of the Gun' ...
1
Not really. The bolt still impacts on the compressed spring. Lewis gun is slightly closer, but not the same.
1
Longer barrel, different gas port location, quicker feeding from box magazine, etc.
1
Yes, the longer barrel and different gas block location will contribute to an altered rate of fire. (: I was just pointing out that the drum shape and clock type spring have more drag when feeding, compared to a straight box magazine.
1
Yes. It was only available from ST kinetics till the Knights Arms light assault machine gun came out.
1
There were some imported before the 1986 machine gun import ban, and some "parts kits" turn up. We do not import any machine guns currently for civilian use.
1
It is a complete system, bolt is modified and there are other changes that help reduce the forward bolt momentum.
1
It is cost, mostly. The m 240 and m 249 are made in the U. S. The Ultimax is only available under patent from Jim Sullivan and ST kinetics.
1
Cost, complexity, exclusive patent by Jim Sullivan and ST kinetics.
1
The return spring is strengthened in this system, but there is a balance of improvements that make it work.
1
If you're going to fanboi all over her, at least get her name correct, lol
1
Not particularly. The MP 38 / 40 return spring stops the bolt before it hits the rear of the receiver, but is still fully compressed to form a hard surface ( like several other sub machine guns, see recent Baretta model 4 video ). The Lewis gun is a little closer to some of these ideas and older.
1
You know where Ian can find one to film?
1
Don't call me "son" unless you're over 60, whipersnapper. lol The point was if you aren't going to contribute to making it easy for Ian to find things you want to see... you are just whistling into the wind.
1
Yes, sort of. Shoulder aimed standing fire, like for clearing buildings.

L. James Sullivan *
1
Sort of. It isn't just the spring and receiver that is creating this constant recoil effect, it is a whole balanced system by Jim Sullivan. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gOUKXIrDE0I

This constant recoil system is not by Stoner, it is by Jim Sullivan ..
1
It has no belts for the reasons you mentioned and because the original contract requirements included using standard magazines. Plus it is largely based on Jim Sullivan's work with Stoner and the M - 16.

1
Jim Sullivan worked into an M 4 sized platform. Nothing has come of it so far ..
1
We all do .. (:
1
It was specifically designed around Stoner's work on the 5.56 mm and M 16, by Jim Sullivan. The alterations to an M 14 would not be the same, some adaptations would be needed.
1
Lewis gun is way older and has a similar idea of operation ..
