  6. It's not all involuntary. 99% of people think there should be a military, and roads and schools. It's just the amounts, and how they're spent that are up for debate. Tax itself is pretty much universally agreed upon as a good thing.

Nutritional information is an absolute shitshow because everybody thinks THEY have the answer, completely disregarding the evidence of people who eat totally differently yet live long healthy lives. The human body is insanely adaptable and they vary greatly. I guess it's up to each to find what works best for themselves as individuals.

As a climatologist, he's agreeing with you here. I don't get your stance. And he really is a legit literal genius. Don't get me wrong, I think the guy is pure evil and we haven't seen the last of it because his daughters husband told my friend that she recently graduated with a degree in public policy so he's not done, but none of that changes the fact he is legitimately a successful genius.

Marty: if your electricity for your electric car comes from coal fired plants, then you are still emitting all kinds of fossil fuels even with your electric vehicle (not to mention the horribly toxic chemicals and things that need to be mined to go into the batteries). Also your argument is just plain fucking stupid because owning physical devices has zero to do with your intimate knowledge of, well...anything about them.

  14. Bang on. It bugs me when people strongly on one side of a debate just spout their side only without really even trying to engage the other. It's like the greed vs hippy fights. The money side says "But jobs and quality of life, you idiots!" and the hippies say "It's the air we all breathe, you idiots!" and never try to find that common ground and build from there. How about the greedy say "When there's more money because of X,Y, and Z that means we have more available funding to help environmental causes and help for the homeless blah blah blah" and the hippies could say "When there's less income disparity, the entire economy does better so even the capitalists benefit because more people have money for their shit, and you will live a longer, happier life with clean air so you can enjoy your yacht with your great grandkids". But they don't. No wonder fuck-all gets solved. People on the whole are not interested in finding solutions, they are interested in getting angry and being "right".

Coke, Walmart, Disney, B of A, Phizer, Lowe's, Nike, Patagonia, Adidas, Reebok, Pepsi/Frito-Lay, Facebook, PayPal, and let's not forget they very platform you are on. Google/YouTube are some of the worst offenders at all. Believe me I hate what these companies do but it's basically impossible to avoid all of them, and there are many, many more.

  23. Yup. The next day Jon Stewart started his show by rubbing his hands together and staring at the camera excitedly, not saying a word. Then after some silence he said that sometimes the jokes just write them selves, or something like that. It was funny because we all knew what he was getting at and his reaction was fucking priceless. That's how a real comedian does it. It's like great blues, where it's all about the notes you don't play. He wasn't a gross partisan hack. He was left leaning, but very fair.

  26. The saddest part is that many of those professionals only do that because if they don't, then they themselves will get canceled. I've listened to podcasts from psychologists who give specific examples of how the mob was taking away peoples careers for simply doing a deeper dive to see whether the child truly is gender dysphoric, or whether the kid was just going through a phase with their friends.

  27. I'll tell you how: one big city. Toronto. The vast majority of his votes came from one metropolitan area. Outside of that he receives very little in the way of votes. West of Toronto he gets so little as to be irrelevant. Vancouver is a bit silly, as is Victoria, but the west doesn't like him.

  28. The CBC is so stupid. They keep ripping the conservatives even though they know the cons will eventually win power back and then what do you think they'll do? "Uh...sorry guys, were just kidding?". What a terrible strategy. If they'd just stay honest, the CBC would get a bit more funding during Liberal power, and a bit less curing Con power and that would be it. But if the cons win again the CBC will hopefully get their budgets cut right to nothing, and replaced with what the CBC used to be.

  38. I wish Canada had something like the Bill of Rights. All we have is a charter of rights and freedoms and I laughed at the trucker convoy when every protest was selling copies of it because the very first line in it explicitly states that if the government doesn't like what you were doing then they can get rid of it. It's literally the very first line. No I didn't think that even Trudeau would be a big enough scumbag to suspend it, but he did and I don't see why it even had to go through parliamentary procedure because it's written right in it that they can revoke it at any time. It's a joke and I hope nobody ever brings it up again as far as Canadians having rights. We also don't have any free speech laws. In fact quite the opposite. We have the only laws in the western world for compelled speech.

The scariest thing for me is being completely ready to go 35 minutes before I actually have to leave.   48. Stephen, tread carefully when comparing the views of the populace at large with a those of an internet comment section, haha. I agree though that very few people admit they're wrong. It's so bananas that when I concede a point to the "other side" in an argument, they often stammer and aren't quite sure how to handle it. People seem to get even more upset with me if I don't take a strong stance either for or against them. It's the strangest thing. Having my mind changed by a rational argument is actually one of my favourite things in the world. I think it's fun because I know my opinion is consistent with the most up to date information I have and not based in ideology. I actually got yelled at by a SJW because I asked her if she'd read the entire platform of all of the federal parties (here in Canada) before voting. Then I asked if she'd at least read the platform of the party she voted for. She shouted me down and said nobody has time for that. I said it takes one afternoon every 4 years, or an hour a day for half a week every 4 years. Then she got angry some more and changed the topic.
