No, it was a political project from the start. The end was always to become a federal country.
20
@equilbrium it was ALWAYS a political project. Why do so many Europeans not even know what the EU is??
9
Why, do you vote for your president in your country? Do Brits or the Spanish vote for their king? Do catholics vote for the pope? We do not vote for any of them.
7
I love the EU regulations. Do you want to be like the USA where there are no rules??
6
@catherines7553 not like the EU. On many things, like the environment, digital rights, food rules etc, the EU sets the standards. It is called "the Bruxelles effect".
4
My country (Italy) has never been russophobic ever. Who is russophobic? Poland? The Baltic states?
4
@ValerieDee123 the USA have less regulations on digital services, food, safety, green transition etc than the EU.
3
@trevor5290 he said that in 2016 😂
3
@karinadiana901 I am fine with voting for a party and let them (the party, the MPs) choose the President/ PM. I don't want anything like the American elections. I don't know how it works in Poland. I'll check.
2
@vadim-2068 the Vatican is still getting involved in Italian politics, being near Rome and all. And I am an atheist, so I don't like it at all.
2
@EMB3D I agree. There should be an option to kick out from the EU non democratic countries or countries that act against the EU itself. Hungary does not belong in the EU unless they change.
2
@Hun55 do you know how the EU works or do you need a lesson? You vote for the European parliament members and for your country's head of government/ State. They decide who is going to be in the Commission. So, yeah, we do vote for them.
2
@eliasphiniotis I personally liked the Soviet Union more than todays Russia.
2
@JohnWick-d1b2b where is there hate for Russia in Europe?? Not in Italy.
2
@maxalex3661 I assure you that in Italy there is not talk of "evil Russia". Not on the Left and not on the Right. My father loves Russia and has been to Moscow in 1980. The only country that has always been russophobic is the USA. Have a nice day.
2
@maxalex3661 I am glad your relative has a good experience in Italy. I am not surprised she found an Italian boyfriend. Many Italian men marry Russian women. Our cultures have alot in common I think. I hope our countries go back to friendly relationships like before this stupid war. Meloni needs to go.
2
@JohnWick-d1b2b I find it insulting that in the USA and other countries they don't teach that Russians played a huge part in defeating Germany and liberating other European countries. A Russian soldier who joined the Italian Resistance was killed by Germans a kilometer from were I live. We remember who was on our side. Americans forget that, and think they were the big heroes in WWII 😞
2
Are you serious? Calm down, no one is going to fight in Ukraine. Nobody said that.
2
@Kalire21 I am not British. My country (Italy) said no boots anywhere. Starmer is not going to send soldiers to fight in Ukraine. It was for peace-keeping. Putin already said no, so it's no.
2
@GB-gf3dm are you serious?? 😂 I WISH us communists still had that power. Communism has been dead since the fall of the Soviet Union. Take your meds.
1
@GB-gf3dm what if the prevailing belief IS socialism?
1
@GB-gf3dm a nation does not have an "ideology" 😂 seriously, you need to go back to school.
1
@GB-gf3dm upper classes are never "innocent". Are you upper class or just a sucker? 😂
1
@kevfit4333 no its not 😂 it's all fake.
1
@user-ez5pt5qi1r why the hate for communism? Unless you are rich, of course 😂
1
@kerwinbrown4180 misinformation. I hope the EU will start to ban all this misinformation soon.
1
@GB-gf3dm are we in kindergarden?
1
@GB-gf3dm You sound unhinged. Take your meds dear.
1
@KOliberKuku some people with no education in history think they are the same.
1
@GB-gf3dm no true.
1
@GB-gf3dm Anti-intellectualism is alive and well in the USA, but not in Europe fyi.
1
@LaCommentaire did you prefer a Europe always at war? Because that was how it was without the EU.
1
@LaCommentaire I guess you like wars more than prosperity? Where are you from?
1
@richardmenz3257 it started as a peace project. And it worked. Would you rather have new wars in Europe?
1
@ValerieDee123 you are confused, I was not talking about defence.
1
@ValerieDee123 I was talking about EU regulations, like the digital act. I never said anything about defence.
1
@ValerieDee123 mess? What mess? I don't want to spend money on weapons. I prefer to keep my universal healthcare, thank you very much. The EU should have never gotten involved in Ukraine with weapons, only with diplomacy. Ukraine is not a EU member and not a Nato member. We used to get cheap Russian gas and now we don't. The USA is our biggest enemy, especially now.
1
@sorayialomonosova5811 yes, of course. They protect us citizens. In the USA, only oligarchs and corporations are protected. No thanks.
1
@steveblobs4851 well banning criticism of ANY religion is a bit too much even for me. I noticed the UK is a bit heavy on the censorship lately. I approve regulating misinformation and hate speech. I guess it's difficult to decide where to stop.
1
@Skitdora2010 and I pity you. Can we agree to disagree? Americans need to understand every country has it's own culture and values, and these are often the opposite of "American values". In Europe, free speech doesn NOT include hate speech and misinformation. Stop pushing so-called "American values" to the rest of the world. I am so glad China will replace you.
1
@Skitdora2010 we are not "in a cage". We are protected. Americans are homeless, have no free/ cheap healthcare, are overworked, your suicide/ homicide/ drug addiction rates are insane, women and babies die because of the abortion bans etc etc. You call that "freedom"?? I am sorry to tell you you have been conned.
1
@midlspahe no, you are wrong or lying. We can tell what misinformation is, because there is an objective, scientific truth for most things. And there isn't for others. Like, religion has no scientific truth. Anti-racism and feminism (what you call "woke ideology", right?) have foundation in SCIENCE. We can not compare science to magical thinking. Beliefs based on magic thinking should be routered out like a cancer.
1
@midlspahe one "ideology" is based on facts, science, progress, material truth, critical thinking. The other is based on magical thinking, hate, refuse to progress or to reason etc. They can not be compared, sorry. The second one is a cancer.
1
@midlspahe you want the right to be racist, sexist, homophobic etc. Sorry, those days are over. You need to accept it and move on. Being stuck in the past is not healthy.
1
@Skitdora2010 there is no freedom without economic freedom. Working class Americans do not have any freedom. Of course neither does the European working class, but at least we dont die or go bankrupt because we can not afford healthcare, we are less likely to end up homeless, more likely to have free or cheap education etc. We need to ditch capitalism and maybe we have a chance to survive.
1
@Skitdora2010 do you believe in science and critical thinking, or religion and magical thinking?
1
@midlspahe are you saying racism, sexism and homophobia are just common sense??
1
@midlspahe go ahead and make some examples. I'll wait.
1
@midlspahe it is NEVER justifiable to be racist, sexist or homophobic. You guys really need to understand this. Or do you need another 1968?
1
@midlspahe gender is a spectrum. Deal with it!
