In 2002 I was making $120K with full benefits. I had 401K, home, cars, wife and kids. That year I was laid off work during down sizing. I lost my healthcare obviously, and right in between jobs, 4 months later, I was diagnosed with kidney failure, end stage. I couldn't work, dialysis, hospital stays, medications. Went on disability, and medicare and medicaid. Lost the house, cars, savings, and had to take hand outs. Thank God I got transplant within 2 years and I am back full force. The reason I am telling you this is a person making good money can and possibly will at some point lose it all, excluding higher income people is stupid. They are part of the society and they also may and will need help at some point. It never all roses.
